Cheap Airline Tickets Won’t Wait - You snooze, You loose
April 26, 2008
I am planning a trip to Pennsylvania in six weeks and just noticed that there is an airfare sale going on for this summer. When I checked the fare for my destination it was available for $233.00 and that was a great price because the destination was a smaller town in central Penn. Normally I pay about $425.00 to fly there. I should have jumped on the tickets right away but I was busy and didn’t get it done right then. Four days later when I checked in to buy the tickets, I couldn’t get the days I wanted and I had to spend about $35.00 more to make the flight. I spent most of an hour hunting for the old fares on the days I wanted but they were apparently sold already. Now I get to fly out a couple of days earlier than I had planned (which isn’t all bad) and I will be spending a few dollars more than anticipated. It just goes to show you - if you find a fare that’s really good buy - you better buy it now!
Discount Traveler Snags Huge Savings on Midweek Travel
April 19, 2008
Yesterday I met a traveler who had managed to fly from the midwest to Las Vegas, stay for one night at a hotel there and then fly on to Phoenix the next day and spend less than $125 for the entire trrip. I had to ask how in the world he had managed such a cheap trip and he told me this story:
It started with a flight from Rapid City, South Dakota on Allegent airlines. He had found a special promotion to Las Vegas at only $19.00. (on the web site for Allegiant Air I found several flites available for just $59.00 from Rapid City to Las Vegas). Then because he was staying in Las Vegas in the middle of the week he was able to get a hotel room for $39.00 which is not uncommon for midweek stays. He found a special fare on US Airways from Las Vegas to Phoenix for $39.00 and before taxes these costs totaled under $100.00. If he had flown on Northwest out of Mpls - St Paul the cost would have been $160.00 but he would have had to travel to the Twin Cities first and paid for a hotel there which would have been more than the $39.00 in Las Vegas.
It always takes some degree of flexible travel planning and requires a few phone calls or several inquiries on the internet, but when you happen to be a discount traveler and want to save that kind of money, it sure is worth the extra effort.
