Five Tips To Save You Money on Your Travels
March 9, 2009
- Whenever your travel plans include a trip during the high season you will find the prices are higher on everything you need. The cost of travel will be higher, hotels will be more expensive, even the entry fees for entertainment and museums may cost more during the high season. The discount traveler should always consider travel in the shoulder season or a little before or after the high season. The travel costs will be lower, the crowds will be lighter and the weather is usually going to be very good. You will find the added bonus of much shorter lines or sometimes no line at all at various attractions.
- Eat your biggest meal in the middle of the day when you will find restaurant prices are lower than in the evenings. Lunch prices are sometimes in effect to as late as 3 or 4 o’clock in the afternoon. The food is the same quality as that used for later meals and you normally don’t have to make reservations.
- Try going on a picnic occasionally instead of eating every meal in a restaurant. You can go shopping in the local markets for bread and meat and whatever else you will need to complete your meal. Be sure to observe the rules of proper sanitation and wash all fruits and vegetables before you use them.
- As a discount traveler you’re going to want to become familiar with using local transportation in the areas you are visiting. City buses can save you a bundle over the price of a cab when traveling from an airport to a city center. Frequently you will find a special price for an all day pass or a week long price for the city sponsored transportation.
- If you need to rent a car for a day or two wait until you have left the airport. As a discount traveler you will know that the airport always tacks on a special fee that can add on at least $15.00 per day. Once you have left the airport, rental companies will usually provide transportation for you to get your car.
